After qualifying as a Solicitor in 1982 and joining the firm in 1987 Helen became Partner in 1990. Her background is that of a court advocate in both the criminal and family courts. Having trained as a mediator and studied environmental sciences, she now focuses on family, environmental issues and regulatory law generally. This includes family, licensing, health and safety, waste management, food hygiene, renewable energy, traffic law and crime.

She is the East Anglian convener of the UK Environmental Law Association.

She lives in Bury St. Edmunds and her hobbies include studying for a diploma in environmental control and public health, book binding, town twinning, the French and German languages,
